To search using Advanced Search:

  1. On the Global Menu Bar, choose Search on the Tools menu.

  2. On the Content Server Advanced Search page, in the Full Text component, do the following:

    1. Choose options from the Look For, Modifier, and Within lists.

    2. Enter your search term in the text box.

    3. Click the Duplicate button to add more options to refine your search, if needed.

    Note

    Note:
The components that appear in your Content Server may differ from the ones discussed here.

When you search using several components, for example, Full Text, Natural Language Query, etc., they are implicitly combined or “anded” together.

  3. Under Add to Search Form, click Natural Language Query, and do the following:

    1. Choose an option from the Mode list.

    2. Enter a question or text in the text box.

  4. Click Slice, and choose the Content Server slice you want to search. If you do not explicitly select a Content Server slice, the Enterprise slice is searched by default.

    Note

    Note:
If a slice is deleted, it may still appear in the Slices list, and may be returned in a func=search.getslices function call. This is because of the caching characteristics in Content Server. Once the cache is cleared by all active threads the slice will no longer be returned.

  5. Click System Attributes, and do the following:

    1. Choose options from the Additional Attributes and Content Type lists.

      Note

      Note:
In the Date list, if you specify Past 3 Months or Past 6 Months, the date range specified by the query is not exactly 3 or 6 months. Instead, the calculation is performed using 90 days and 180 days, respectively. Since some months may have more or less than 30 days, the range over which the query operates may miss some items that would otherwise be found.

When searching for dates, you can choose the “blank” option. This is the default setting, which excludes the date field from the search query.

You cannot search XML files through a System Attributes search. To perform a search on an XML region, use the XML Types component to select the DTD region.

When choosing options from the Content Type or MIME Type lists, your query is not modified until you select an option. For example, when you select Any Type from the Content Type list, or Any MIME Type from the MIME Type list, the region is defined. When you select No Type Defined from the Content Type list, or No MIME Type Defined from the MIME Type list, the region is not defined. The default state is “blank”.

    2. Click to choose a Content Server user to enter in the Created By text box.

  6. Click Categories, and choose a Category if multiple attributes will help refine your search.

When a CheckBox attribute is added to a Category, and the Show in Search parameter is enabled (see Working With Attributes), a list is added to the Category component. The default display of the attribute is that two entries exist. One entry has the CheckBox unchecked, and the other CheckBox is checked.

The CheckBox attribute allows you to select a value from the list:

    • Any – the default, excludes the CheckBox field from the search query

    • True – your choices must be true to be included in the Search Results. This value is the equivalent of CheckBox is checked.

    • False – your choices must be false to be included in the Search Results. This value is the equivalent of CheckBox is unchecked.

    • Defined – only values that have a CheckBox defined are returned in the Search Results

    • Undefined – all values that do not have a CheckBox defined are returned in the Search Results.

    • Not True – your choices must be undefined or false to be included in the Search Results.

    • Not False – your choices must not be undefined or true to be included in the Search Results

    Note

    Note:
OpenText strongly recommends you do not duplicate this row to add more options, since every search selection is covered for all possible cases.

When searching for dates, you can choose the “blank” option. This is the default setting, which excludes the date field from the search query.

  7. Click XML Types, and choose an XML DTD Volume to search for XML content.

  8. Click Location, and choose a Content Server location to enter in the text box.

  9. Optional Click Physical Item Types, and select the Physical Item types you want used in the search.

  10. Optional Click Physical Item Attributes, and select any available Physical Item attributes you want used in the search.

  11. Optional Click Records Management Attributes, and select any available Records Management attributes you want used in the search.

  12. Optional Click Security Clearance Attributes, and select any available Security Clearance attributes you want used in the search.

  13. Click the Search button, or Reset the Search Form.

    Note

    Note:
When you click Reset, the search terms will be returned to their initial values when you displayed the page.

  14. Under Save Options, click Save Your Search or Save as Search Form to save your search or to create a Search Form.
