The core of your Pulse page are the activity feeds, real-time listings of status messages, system-generated messages, and comments from your coworkers. You can choose an activity feed to show posts from all users, from the colleagues you follow, or posts you made. Additionally, you can filter the types of messages that you see to include all posts, only status updates, or only content updates.
Like many social networking tools, Content Server Pulse allows users to post short status updates to share information with other users. These updates can include comments or links, as well as attachments, allowing you to keep up-to-date on the activities within your team, department, or organization. For more information about posting a status update, see To Update Your Status.
When a user adds or modifies an item within Content Server, Content Server Pulse automatically generates a content update. You can also create a content update for an item by clicking the Comments link of a post in the Activity Feed. Your system administrator can control which Content Server items will automatically generate activity feed posts.
From the Pulse page, you can comment on any post, “like” any post, view the entire conversation thread, view the previous comments in a thread, or access the profile page for the person who made the post. Comments are kept with the original message in a conversation thread. For more information about commenting, see To Comment on a Post. You can also search through all posts using the Activity Feed search or the standard search interface. Permissions and user privacy settings determine which posts you can see.
For one-on-one messaging, you can send public messages or private messages. A public message is a post that contains an @ mention, which tags the post and brings it to the attention of the specified user. By using @ mention tags in the body of the post, the tagged user can easily identify posts that are directed to them by navigating to the Activity Feed sidebar of their Pulse page and then clicking Mentions. Each additional mention of the tagged user will increment the Mentions counter. In a single post, you can add multiple mentions in any location in that post. For more information about using mention tags, see To Mention a User in a Post. You can also send and receive private messages to an individual user through the Private Messages inbox on the Pulse page. For more information about sending one-on-one messaging, see To Send a Public Message or a Private Message.
Following other users allows you to see their recent status and content updates in the Pulse – My Colleagues activity feed. To find users to follow, you can use the Pulse people search, refer to recent connections made in Pulse, or browse the followers for any user. For more information about following other users, see To Find and Follow Users.
Using the links in the Activity Feeds sidebar, you can filter the content in your feed.
